Topic Research: Apollo's Lovers
I would like to retell the stories of some of Apollo's best-known lovers: Hyacinthus, Daphne, and Coronis. Apollo and Hyacinthus's story is a tragic one, in which Hyacinthus's death is inadvertently caused by jealousy. Apollo and Daphne's story is probably the most well known "love" story involving Apollo. It portrays Apollo in a bad light as he chases this nymph and forces her to turn into a tree to escape. Of course, there are various versions of this story and could be spun in different ways. Apollo and Coronis is a story in which Apollo's love cheats on him and so he commissions his sister to kill her. All of these stories are slightly dark and have tragic endings. I think this storybook could go in a few different directions, depending on whether I write Apollo as a sympathetic character or a repugnant one.
