Topic Research: Apollo's Lovers

I would like to retell the stories of some of Apollo's best-known lovers: Hyacinthus, Daphne, and Coronis.
Apollo and Hyacinthus's story is a tragic one, in which Hyacinthus's death is inadvertently caused by jealousy.
Apollo and Daphne's story is probably the most well known "love" story involving Apollo. It portrays Apollo in a bad light as he chases this nymph and forces her to turn into a tree to escape. Of course, there are various versions of this story and could be spun in different ways.
Apollo and Coronis is a story in which Apollo's love cheats on him and so he commissions his sister to kill her.

All of these stories are slightly dark and have tragic endings. I think this storybook could go in a few different directions, depending on whether I write Apollo as a sympathetic character or a repugnant one.

  1. Hi, Ann!

I like the topic you have decided to focus on! I am intrigued to see how different each of Apollo's love stories truly are. I have not learned much about Apollo before, so I did not even know about the most well known love story which seems to be between Apollo and Daphne. As you mentioned, these stories do seem tragic, but that gives so much opportunity to tell the story the way you want and create emotional ties to the characters. I am looking forward to these stories!
